I’ve photographed nearly a thousand proposals throughout the Bay Area, and Santa Cruz is one of those places where the setting can completely change the feeling of the moment. You can be standing on an open beach with the Pacific behind you, surrounded by dramatic coastal cliffs, or tucked away beneath redwood trees and feel like the rest of the world disappeared.
My job is to help you figure out the location, timing, light, privacy, and all the little logistics beforehand. Then, when the moment comes, you can stop thinking about the plan and simply be there with the person you love.
Santa Cruz gives you a very different kind of proposal experience from San Francisco. The coastline feels more open and relaxed, and there is an incredible amount of variety within a relatively small area.
Natural Bridges gives you one of the most recognizable coastal backgrounds in Santa Cruz. West Cliff has ocean views and easy access. North of town, the coastline becomes more rugged around Davenport. And if the beach is not really your style, the Santa Cruz Mountains give us redwoods, trails, and quieter environments that can feel much more private.
The right location really depends on your partner. Some people would love a dramatic cliff and open ocean. Others would feel much more comfortable on a casual walk through the trees. We can choose the setting around the two of you rather than choosing
a place simply because it photographs well.

Take a look through the gallery below. Pay attention not only to the scenery, but also to how different locations change the mood, privacy, light, and overall feeling of the proposal.
If you already know exactly where and when you want to propose, send me the plan and we can work from there.
If you are still deciding, that is completely normal. We can talk about the kind of setting your partner would enjoy, whether privacy or scenery matters more, how much walking makes sense, the best time of day, and whether you want to stay for portraits afterward.
Before the proposal, we will also go over the approach, positioning, and how we will recognize each other without making the surprise obvious. The goal is for you to arrive prepared without feeling like you are following a complicated production.
Santa Cruz pricing includes the additional travel from the San Francisco Bay Area. All packages include proposal planning and day-of coordination.
A simple option focused on capturing the proposal itself.
Best when you already have a straightforward plan and mainly want the actual moment photographed beautifully and discreetly.
Proposal coverage plus a short portrait session afterward.
This is a great fit if you want to capture the proposal and then spend a little time enjoying the location together while we create a few relaxed portraits.
More time to explore the setting and create a fuller story.
Santa Cruz locations often give us several very different backgrounds within the same area. With more time, we can move beyond the proposal spot and create something closer to a complete engagement session.
Two perspectives during the actual proposal.
This includes everything in the Premium package plus a second photographer during the proposal itself, giving us the ability to capture the moment from two different viewpoints at the same time.
The most flexible option for a larger Santa Cruz experience.
This works especially well if you want more time, multiple nearby environments, a longer coastal or redwood session, or simply want the freedom to let the experience unfold without watching the clock.
If your partner loves the ocean, Santa Cruz gives us beautiful beach and cliffside options. If your partner is more private or would immediately become suspicious about a carefully planned trip to a scenic overlook, a walk through the redwoods may feel much more natural.
Timing matters too. Sunset is beautiful, but it is also when many popular coastal locations are busiest. A weekday or earlier time of day can give us more space, softer energy, and a proposal that feels much more private.
Some Santa Cruz locations are inside state parks or protected areas, so access, photography, special-event, and drone rules can vary. Once we know what you are planning, we can talk through the practical side before committing to a particular spot.
You do not need to have the location or every detail figured out yet. Send me the date, whatever ideas you already have, and a little about your partner. We can build the plan from there.
